Roads Minister says Accra–Kumasi Expressway aligns with Ghana’s ECOWAS commitments.

The Roads Minister has stated that the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway is in line with Ghana’s commitments under ECOWAS. He explained that the existing Accra–Kumasi Highway is heavily congested, slow-moving, and often forces commuters to spend between four and six hours on the road as traffic passes through several towns and villages.

In an interview on GTV’s breakfast show, monitored by The Ghanaian Times in Accra on Monday, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Kwame Agbodza, noted that the new expressway would facilitate the efficient movement of goods from Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana to Côte d’Ivoire, while also enabling the transport of Ghanaian products to Burkina Faso.

Mr Agbodza added that the expressway would operate as a user-pay option and would not replace existing roads. He said the project would also feature modern facilities such as fuel stations, electric vehicle charging points, and emergency services.
