Retired Police officer ACP Benjamin Agordzo emphasized that election security is not solely the responsibility of the police but a collective duty involving various stakeholders.
His remarks come in response to comments made by DCOP Gabriel Prince Waabu regarding the exclusion of the military from the security arrangement for the 2024 general elections.
Agordzo disagreed with Waabu’s statement, emphasizing that election security management requires different roles and contributions from various security agencies, including the military.
While the police may have a visible presence at polling stations and collation centers, other security forces play essential roles, such as border security to prevent infiltration by terrorists.

He criticized the notion that election security is solely the responsibility of the police, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive approach involving journalists, civil society, and other stakeholders. Agordzo stressed the importance of recognizing election security as a collective responsibility and urged for a more inclusive approach in ensuring peace, security, and law and order during elections.
