Former Youth and Sports Minister Enoch Teye Mensah, affectionately known as ET Mensah, has passed away. He died in the early hours of Monday, October 2, while receiving treatment at a hospital in South Africa.

ET Mensah had a distinguished political career, serving the people of Ningo-Prampram as their Member of Parliament for two decades, from 1997 to 2017. During his time in office, he made significant contributions to the nation, including his role as the longest-serving Sports Minister.

In addition to his parliamentary work, ET Mensah served in various capacities in the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He held positions such as Minister of Employment and Social Welfare and also had a stint at the Ministry of Education. He was known for his dedication to public service and his commitment to the betterment of his constituency and country.

During his later tenure in Parliament, he was recognized as one of the ‘Three Wise Men,’ alongside Cletus Avoka and Alban Bagbin, two prominent political figures in Ghana. ET Mensah’s political career was marked by both achievements and controversies, including a notable rivalry with his successor, Sam Nartey George.

In recognition of his contributions to the nation, ET Mensah was awarded the Companion of the Order of the Volta by former President John Agyekum Kufuor. His passing is a loss not only to his constituency but to the entire nation.
