Mother of five writes BECE in Worawora

Ms. Rita Quayson, a 43-year-old mother of five from Apesokubi, was one of the candidates who participated in the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the Worawora Senior High School Centre in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region in Ghana.

Rita enrolled in the Apesokubi D/A Junior High School (JHS) with a strong determination to pass the BECE. Her goal was to benefit from the Free Senior High School Policy and secure a better future for herself and her family.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Ms. Quayson revealed that her decision to return to the classroom was driven by her previous struggles

to secure a job as a health assistant due to her inability to read and write. Frustrated by this limitation, she took the bold step to pursue education and improve her literacy skills.

A total of 1,418 candidates successfully completed their BECE in the area, with the final paper being French. Rita’s perseverance and commitment to

education are an inspiring example of the transformative power of education, even for individuals facing challenges later in life.
