The passage of the legislation on March 31, 2023, was blamed by a furious legislator on the clerks of Parliament.

The passage of the measures has drawn harsh criticism for the Minority caucus.

Mr. Adams stated during the Bernard Avle-hosted Point of View on TV that the bills would not have been approved if the clerks at the table had been truthful during the head counts.

“If the clerks were truthful, if they had truly counted the people they are supposed to have counted and not counted strangers, [the bills wouldn’t have been passed]. That was the best strategy to go for,” he stated.

When asked if the Minority was aware of the presence of all 137 Majority MPs during voting, he responded, “At the time we were taking the vote, the individual we knew was not in the house was the deputy majority chief whip, Seyram Alhassan, but she eventually came in. We were unaware that Mohammed Tuferu, the Nanton MP, was absent at the moment.

It’s a little tricky to determine whether or not almost everyone is in the house, he said again. According to our information, Mohammed Tuferu had an accident and was headed that way.

The Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill, 2022, the Ghana Revenue Authority Bill, 2022, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill, 2022 were all approved by Parliament on Friday, March 30.

The financial bills aim to mobilize approximately 4 billion Ghana Cedis in domestic income each year.

In order to enable the Board Approval for the $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) Programme staff-level agreement, the bills are also essential to the government’s efforts.

An MP from the majority had a near-fatal accident on his way to the House, but the bills were still approved despite the minority’s prior communication of opposition.
