President Akufo-Addo has unveiled plans to distribute 1.3 million tablets to public Senior High School and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students as part of the government's commitment to digitize all sectors of the country.

During the launch of the Smart School Project on March 25, the President emphasized the importance of digitalization in education, especially in light of lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic. The tablets, equipped with digital content, aim to support research, teaching, and learning among students.

In addition to distributing tablets to students, the government plans to provide discounted tablets and laptops to tertiary students and lecturers to facilitate academic work.

Acknowledging the success of the free Senior High School (SHS) policy, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the role of digitalization in propelling the next phase of the policy. He highlighted the importance of seamless offline teaching and learning experiences enabled by digitalization.

The President also announced the distribution of 200,000 laptops to teachers in pre-tertiary institutions nationwide, coupled with training on how to utilize the embedded applications for lesson preparation and research.

Furthermore, the government intends to construct 100 smart schools across the country, with the first 30 schools slated for completion within the year. These smart schools will feature digitized infrastructure and environmentally friendly amenities, including solar panels for independent operation.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing the free Senior High School program through technological advancement, aiming to equip students with the skills needed for global competitiveness.

In closing, he expressed confidence in building a future where every Ghanaian child has access to quality education, urging stakeholders to embrace the opportunity to transform schools into hubs of innovation and excellence in the digital age.
