The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Police and other security agencies to collaborate with the Electoral Commission (EC) and all stakeholders to ensure peaceful elections in December.
He emphasized that the police will actively engage with the EC to address any security concerns ahead of the polls, aiming to resolve them effectively.
“We’re here to listen to you to understand the concerns you have in terms of security ahead of the elections, so we can position ourselves to address them. The national election security task force is already working with relevant stakeholders, and we will continue to ensure that our country remains peaceful before, during, and after the polls.
We are here to assure you that we will address all your security concerns ahead of the elections,” the IGP assured during a meeting with the Election Management Body (EMB) at the EC headquarters.
In response, EC Chair Madam Jean Mensa commended the IGP and the Police leadership for their proactive approach towards the upcoming elections, expressing confidence that their efforts will build trust among all stakeholders.
Additionally, the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) praised the IGP for his handling of by-elections since assuming office. The establishment of the Election Security Task Force has contributed to successful by-elections without significant issues, unlike previous instances.

The Programs Manager for CDD-Ghana, Mr. Paul Aborampah Mensah, highlighted the effectiveness of the Election Security Task Force in ensuring the smooth conduct of by-elections, expressing optimism that this approach will be beneficial for the upcoming main elections.
