Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed skepticism about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s widespread support within the party as a presidential candidate.
He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia wasn’t the preferred choice among party members, suggesting that his victory in the NPP’s presidential primary last year was influenced by President Akufo-Addo and financial resources.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe advised Dr. Bawumia to tread carefully and reconsider his strategies for the upcoming December general elections, cautioning that he is currently in a challenging position due to lack of majority support within the party.
The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, clinched the NPP’s flagbearer position on November 4, 2023, setting the stage for the upcoming December polls. He emerged victorious with 61.43% in the NPP primaries, securing the party’s nomination for the presidency.

The certified results announced by a Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission revealed that Dr. Bawumia polled 118,210 votes representing 61.47%, while his closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, polled 71,996 votes representing 37.41%.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Addai-Nimoh secured a distant third and fourth place, respectively. In total, 192,446 delegates voted in the presidential primary, with a turnout of 94.63%.
