Prominent Ghanaian preacher, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo, holding him responsible for the current economic hardship facing the nation.
The founder of the Alabaster International Ministries expressed his views during a church service on Sunday, September 3.
Prophet Kofi Oduro stated that President Akufo-Addo would go down in history as the worst president in Ghana’s Fourth Republic. He asserted that Ghana has regressed since President Akufo-Addo took office on January 7, 2017.
During his sermon, the outspoken preacher emphasized that the economic challenges facing the country cannot be resolved by the President’s expertise alone.
He added that the remaining months of President Akufo-Addo’s presidency would be marked by economic difficulties, and only divine intervention could remedy the situation.
Prophet Kofi Oduro’s critique comes amid a period of economic crisis in Ghana, which the government has attributed to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
In response to the economic challenges, Ghana’s year-on-year inflation reached a record high of 54.1% in January 2023, with steep increases in food and transport costs.
In an effort to address the economic crisis, the Ghanaian government entered into a $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout program, citing unsustainable debt levels. As part of the conditions for the bailout, the government initiated a domestic debt exchange program.
President Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to pray for him and his appointees to lead with humility and integrity, with the goal of improving the country’s fortunes. He expressed his desire to end his presidency with pride, having made a positive impact on Ghana’s development.
The economic challenges in Ghana highlight the complex issues faced by many African nations as they strive for economic stability and growth in an ever-changing global landscape.
