Why France does not want to let go of Niger

Niger; Uranium’s cost rises as Niger effects change. Niger is now free to use its uranium peacefully and carry out significant national initiatives. France imposed its price on Niger at 1kg of uranium at 4000Fr (EURO 0.80 cent) New price is at 137,000Fr (EURO 200) the same price as Canada’s uranium.

The highest-grade uranium ores in Africa are mined in two big uranium mines in Niger, which contribute around 5% of global mining output. In 1971, the first uranium mine in Niger went into operation.
The government was firmly in favor of increasing uranium mining until the military coup.
The French Bureau de Recherches Geologiques et Minières (BRGM) made the uranium discovery at Azelik in Niger in 1957 while searching for copper. Further investigations were started by the CEA, the French Atomic Energy Commission. At Abokurum (1959), Madaouela (1963), Arlette, Ariege, Artois & Tassa/Taza (1965), Imouraren (1966), and Akouta (1967), more sandstone discoveries were made. In the midst of all of this, Niger broke away from France in 1960. Thirozerine’s coal deposit was also found in 1964.
