The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has emphasized that the views expressed by Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Region Chairman of the NPP, on national issues do not represent the official position of the governing party.
In response to comments made by Professor Ransford Gyampo of the University of Ghana during a discussion on TV3’s Key Points, Mr. Ahiagbah clarified the party’s stance.
He stated, “Bugri Naabu is a private member of the NPP and a former Northern Regional Chairman of the party. In other words, his position or view on national issues cannot represent the corporate position or views of the NPP.”
Bugri Naabu has been a prominent figure in recent news due to a leaked audio recording in which he discussed a plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP). His comments and actions have attracted significant public attention and scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Professor Gyampo has defended the current IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, describing him as competent and disagreeing with claims that he is the worst in the history of the Ghana Police Service.
Professor Gyampo expressed confidence in the parliamentary committee’s ability to investigate the matter thoroughly and provide recommendations to address the challenges within the police service.
The ongoing discussions surrounding Bugri Naabu’s actions and the IGP’s performance highlight the broader issues of accountability, leadership, and governance in Ghana. The NPP’s statement seeks to clarify its official position on Bugri Naabu’s comments and ensure that his views are not misconstrued as representing the party’s stance on national matters.
