Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI-Africa, has raised doubts about the credibility of the allegations made by Commissioner of Police (COP) Alex Mensah against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare.
Cudjoe argues that COP Mensah’s confessed ambition to become the IGP and his admitted animosity toward the IGP may have tainted his statements, and therefore, they should be taken with caution.
Cudjoe suggests that the ongoing inquiry should focus on verifying the authenticity of the leaked audio recording and ascertaining whether the comments made can be attributed to the individuals involved.
He highlights that COP Mensah has accepted that most of the comments on the tape are his own. However, Cudjoe expresses skepticism about the credibility of COP Mensah’s allegations against the IGP, considering his personal biases.
COP Mensah, along with other individuals, is facing an ad-hoc parliamentary committee for their roles in a leaked audio recording where they allegedly discussed a plan to remove the IGP from office.
The parliamentary committee was established to investigate the leaked audio and its implications. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, tasked the committee with submitting its report by September 10, 2023.
Cudjoe’s comments reflect concerns about the impartiality and credibility of COP Mensah’s statements during the inquiry into the leaked audio recording and its potential impact on the investigation’s outcome.
