Alfred Aryee, a partner at chartered accountancy firm Makers and Partners, has urged the University of Ghana (UG) to consider introducing forensic investigation programs into its curriculum.
This move, according to Aryee, would provide students with the necessary skills to address issues related to fraud in Ghana.
Forensic investigation involves collecting and analyzing physical evidence related to a crime in order to draw conclusions about suspects.
Aryee made these remarks during an interview on the sidelines of a thanksgiving service held by the University to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
Aryee, an alumnus of UG, emphasized that introducing forensic investigation programs would produce graduates equipped to enhance the country’s forensic investigation agencies.
He highlighted that forensic investigation is vital as it offers scientific and foundational information for both investigators and courts, playing a crucial role in the criminal justice system.
Furthermore, Aryee stressed the importance of internship programs that are closely aligned with students’ fields of study and made compulsory.
He argued that practical experience gained through internships can help students develop their interests and capacities in the corporate field.
The Vice Chancellor of UG, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, expressed gratitude for the university’s 75 years of academic excellence.
She noted that the institution has embraced various technology-driven initiatives, such as “Classroom Modernisation,”
“One Student One Laptop,” and “Hot-spot Comfort Zones,” aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.
These efforts are designed to equip students with the necessary skills for the 21st century and prepare them for the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.
