Government’s silence on Cecilia Dapaah scandal surprising – Joyce Bawa

Joyce Bawa Mogtari, former President John Dramani Mahama’s Special Aide, has raised questions about the Ghanaian government’s silence regarding the scandal involving former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

Mogtari expressed concern that the government’s continued silence raises doubts about whether it truly respects the Ghanaian people.

In a tweet on August 12, Mogtari criticized the government for not addressing the issue, suggesting that this indicates a lack of seriousness in the fight against corruption. She noted that any government genuinely committed to combating

corruption would have provided a public statement on the matter.

The scandal involving Cecilia Dapaah involves significant sums of money found in her various bank accounts, including foreign currencies and

Ghanaian cedis. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) discovered large amounts of money, totaling millions of dollars and cedis, in Dapaah’s accounts.

Additionally, during a search at Dapaah’s residence, a substantial cash amount was found, further adding to the controversy. The OSP has frozen Dapaah’s bank accounts and is conducting further investigations into the matter.

Cecilia Dapaah was arrested by the OSP on July 26 in connection with a theft case involving her residence, where significant amounts of money and items

were reportedly stolen between July and October 2022. Her official residence and private home were both searched as part of the investigation.
