27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards: Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Wendy Shay and Diana Hamilton Lead Artiste of the Year Race

The organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) have officially announced the nominees for the upcoming awards ceremony, setting the stage for what is expected to be one of the most competitive editions in recent years.

The nominees were revealed on Saturday, March 14 during an unveiling ceremony at the Palms Convention Centre, where several top names in the Ghanaian music industry learned their fate for the prestigious awards.

Leading the pack in the highly anticipated Artiste of the Year category are Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Medikal, Wendy Shay, and gospel star Diana Hamilton. Their nominations reflect strong performances and chart-topping songs released during the year under review.

Several artistes also earned multiple nominations across different categories. Black Sherif, for instance, secured nominations in categories such as Best HipHop Song, Songwriter of the Year, Album/EP of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year for tracks including Sacrifice and Where Dem Boys.

Dancehall star Stonebwoy also received recognition in categories including Best Afropop Song, Collaboration of the Year, and Album/EP of the Year for his project Torcher.

In the rap scene, Sarkodie, Kweku Smoke, Medikal, Kojo Cue, and O’Kenneth will battle for the Best Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year award. Meanwhile, the Best Highlife Artiste category features strong contenders such as Fameye, King Paluta, Kwabena Kwabena, Kofi Kinaata, and Kuami Eugene.

The nominations also highlight emerging talents. Artistes such as Kojo Blak, Gona Boy, Lalid, and Adom Kiki are competing for the Best New Artiste of the Year award.

Other major categories announced include Best Afrobeats Song, Best Afropop Song, Best Rap Performance, Best Music Video, Best Gospel Artiste, Collaboration of the Year, and International Collaboration of the Year, showcasing the diversity and growth of Ghana’s music industry.

With fan-favourite songs like Gymnastic, Sacrifice, Excellent, Olivia, and Shake It to the Max also competing for Most Popular Song of the Year, anticipation is already building ahead of the awards ceremony, which is expected to bring together the biggest stars in Ghanaian music.

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards remain the country’s premier music honours, celebrating excellence and creativity in the Ghanaian music industry each year.
