Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has indicated that he could consider entering politics in the future, revealing that he may contest the parliamentary seat in Ablekuma if residents invite him to represent them.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!During an appearance on the Ekosiisen programme on Asempa FM, the artiste known privately as Charles Nii Armah Mensah said he would only step into the political arena if the people of the constituency encouraged him to do so.
According to him, he has no intention of forcing himself into politics simply because of his status or financial position. “I love Ghana very much. If the people of Ablekuma call me to serve them, I will respond,” he said. “But I will not just decide to run because I have the means.”
Shatta Wale made it clear that if he ever enters politics, he would do so as an independent candidate rather than aligning himself with any political party. He explained that he prefers to maintain his independence and individuality rather than operate within the structures of established political groups.
The musician also shared that he often reflects on leadership through movies and documentaries he watches. He recounted recently watching a film about the biblical figure Moses, saying the story reminded him that leadership sometimes emerges when people call on someone to serve. The experience, he noted, reinforced his belief that he would only pursue public office if there is genuine demand from the community.
Beyond his potential political ambitions, Shatta Wale also spoke about governance in Ghana, suggesting that aspects of the country’s political framework require reform. He argued that the nation needs to reassess structures that have existed since the adoption of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and explore ways to modernise its governance systems in line with global developments.
For now, the award-winning performer says his primary focus remains on his music career and personal life. However, he left open the possibility that he could enter public service in the future if the people he hopes to represent believe he can contribute to their development.
