The arrest was carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department, which says the counsellor’s remarks are believed to have encouraged some young people to gather at the residence of the deceased musician. Authorities say the comments raised concerns about the potential for public disorder.

In a statement, police indicated that the remarks linked to the late musician were considered provocative and capable of disturbing public peace.

Investigators subsequently questioned Counsellor Lutterodt at the CID headquarters as part of efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the video and the statements he allegedly made.

Although he has been released on bail, the police say he will be required to appear in court on March 11, 2026, to respond to the allegations.

According to the police, he is expected to face charges including offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace under Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as well as incitement to violence under provisions of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).

The police have meanwhile advised the public to remain measured in their public comments, especially when discussing sensitive issues involving well-known personalities.

Authorities say investigations into the matter are ongoing as the case heads to court later this week.
