Mahama Outlines Core Principles for Presidential Economic Advisory Group

President John Dramani Mahama has detailed the principles guiding the formation of the Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), highlighting experience, diversity and inclusiveness as the foundation of its work.

At the swearing-in ceremony held at Jubilee House, President Mahama said the selection of members was shaped by several carefully considered criteria, with experience and institutional memory taking precedence.

He noted that some members had served under previous administrations, including during his earlier term in office, describing such continuity as essential to effective governance. Drawing on individuals with prior experience in government and policy, he explained, would help preserve valuable lessons from the past.

According to the President, experience enables the government to build on successful initiatives, address shortcomings and avoid repeating past errors.

He added that the complexity of Ghana’s current economic situation requires a wide spectrum of expertise. As such, diversity of knowledge and sectoral representation formed the second key principle in assembling the advisory body.

The group, he said, comprises professionals with backgrounds in fiscal and monetary policy, capital markets, private enterprise, academia and the broader real economy. This combination, he indicated, is intended to ensure balanced, practical and well-informed recommendations.

President Mahama also emphasised the need for gender and generational balance in shaping economic decisions, noting that national policy should draw from the full range of talent available in the country. He pointed out that PAGE includes women, young professionals, experienced practitioners, scholars and elder statespersons whose perspectives would enrich discussions.

He stressed that the diversity within the group is not merely symbolic but a deliberate strategy to strengthen decision-making.

Expressing optimism about the body’s role, President Mahama said he was confident the Advisory Group would offer sound, evidence-based counsel to bolster economic governance and advance sustainable growth.
