King Charles has made his first public intervention following new revelations in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, stating that Buckingham Palace is prepared to assist police as they examine allegations against his brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
A Palace spokesperson said:
“The King has expressed his deep concern over the continuing allegations about Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct. While the specific claims are for him to address, Buckingham Palace stands ready to support Thames Valley Police if requested.”
Thames Valley Police are currently assessing a complaint from the anti-monarchy group Republic, which alleges Andrew may have committed misconduct in public office and breached official secrets.
Claims Involving Confidential Information
Recently released Epstein emails suggest that Andrew may have shared reports from official visits to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Vietnam, as well as confidential investment details, with Epstein. For example, on 30 November 2010, he forwarded official visit reports from his special adviser, Amit Patel, to Epstein just five minutes after receiving them. Emails from 24 December 2010 also indicate he shared “confidential” investment opportunities in Afghanistan.
Under official guidance, trade envoys are required to keep sensitive commercial or political information from official visits confidential. The Palace emphasized that the King and Queen continue to focus on the victims of any abuse.
Public Reaction and Royal Family Response
On Monday, King Charles visited Clitheroe, where a member of the crowd asked him: “How long have you known about Andrew?” prompting boos from other attendees. This statement follows one from the Prince and Princess of Wales, who said they were “deeply concerned” by the latest Epstein revelations, with their thoughts focused on the victims.
Ongoing Pressure on Andrew
The release of three million new Epstein documents has intensified scrutiny of Andrew. Claims include that a second woman was allegedly sent to the UK by Epstein for sexual encounters with him, and photographs reportedly show inappropriate conduct.Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, has also faced embarrassment, with emails in the files showing her requesting support and money from Epstein.
Last week, Andrew was moved from his Windsor home to the King’s private estate in Sandringham. Following previous revelations in October 2025, he was stripped of his titles as a prince and a duke.
Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, and being named in the Epstein files does not, in itself, imply misconduct.
