Nollywood star Omotola Jalade has addressed rumors of a feud with fellow actress Genevieve Nnaji, amid widespread speculation that the two were not on good terms.
Speaking in an interview on Yanga FM, Omotola clarified that there was never any real conflict between them. She emphasized, “People don’t need to be best friends.”
She also criticized fans for fueling tensions between them, saying, “They started the quarrel before we even knew we were quarreling. So, we just had to catch up with it. But honestly, there was no quarrel.”
When asked if a supposed dispute had lasted for twenty years before the release of E.J. movie, Omotola responded: “People don’t need to be best friends, but we spoke. Behind the scenes, we interacted normally. It’s the same kind of hype that happens with music stars now—people love to create drama.”
Reflecting on the early days of the industry, she added, “Back then, we were like practice for the way things are now with Wizkid or Davido. Really, it was people who started the quarrel before we even realized it. There was no real fight. We were young, everyone was doing their own thing, and the industry naturally creates competition. People would pit actresses against each other, calling one the hottest, then the other. Those tensions are normal, but fans often read too much into them.”
