Asante Kotoko’s hopes of defending their MTN FA Cup title ended on Sunday after a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors were held to a goalless draw in regulation time, despite pressing hard to secure a quarterfinal spot. Kotoko’s skipper, Samba O’Neil, missed a key penalty in the first half, with Aduana’s goalkeeper making a crucial save from 12 yards.
Aduana also had scoring opportunities during the game but failed to convert, leading to the shootout to determine the winner. Kotoko missed two of their first four penalties, while Aduana successfully converted four of their first five, sealing a 4-2 victory and booking their place in the quarterfinals.
The Dormaa-based side will now face Techiman Liberty Youth in the next round as they continue their quest for the MTN FA Cup.
