Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has declared his intention to contest the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 4, the Ashanti Regional Chairman said his decision followed consultations with party elders and personal reflection. He indicated that his bid is aimed at strengthening and unifying the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Wontumi noted that the party is at a critical stage and requires firm and decisive leadership to address its challenges and prepare for future electoral contests.
According to him, effective leadership at this time calls for courage and a willingness to make difficult decisions in the interest of the party.
His declaration sets the tone for what is expected to be a competitive race for the party’s national chairmanship as the NPP prepares for its upcoming national executive elections.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman said the party has drawn lessons from recent experiences and needs steady and principled leadership to rebuild confidence and strengthen its grassroots base.
Describing himself as a grassroots-oriented leader, Wontumi pledged to work with all segments of the party, including elders and youth members.
He called on party members to unite and work collectively towards positioning the NPP for victory in the 2028 general elections.
