Government of Ghana is too Wicked! towards Public Service workers

It is unbelievable that the government of Ghana, a country that is supposed to be a gateway to Africa, is being too wicked to its own workers. Every year, hundreds of workers have to take to social media and other platforms to demand their salaries. The month of October 2025 is just another instance where over 5,000 teachers, Nurses, and even Doctors are on demonstration, demanding their overdue salaries of over 10 to 13 months. While the high-profile staff, like ministers and presidential staff, receive their salaries with no difficulty. Some of the lower staff salaries are as low as GHC 2000, an amount that is just launch monies for some officials. If this is not wickedness, I can’t get any other words to qualify this.

In an interview with some of the unpaid teachers and nurses for over 10 months after their employment, they complained of the hardships and the embarrassments they have to live with daily, as they have become borrowers and beggars even though they are supposed to be gainfully employed.

In Ghana, getting employment in the public sector is like trying to milk an elephant; the same applies to getting your salary after gaining employment. It is obvious that these are intentionally crafted two-way systems to make it hard to survive in the public sector even after hustling to enter. Some leaders undermine this public sector working force, which is the source of the country’s growth.
