The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that they have identified and located the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly married to the 63-year-old Gborbu Wulomo in Nungua, Accra. Both the girl and her mother are currently under police protection.
In response to this development, Former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo reiterated the need for legal action against those involved in the marriage ceremony. She emphasized that the act constitutes a crime under Ghanaian law and called on the state to intervene immediately to protect the rights of the child.
Nana Oye Bampoe Addo stressed that regardless of parental consent, the marriage is unlawful as the minimum age of marriage in Ghana is set at 18 years old. She urged the government, the police, and the Ministry of Gender to take decisive action and ensure that legal processes are initiated to address the issue.

The Nungua Traditional Authority and the Gborbu Wulomo temple have defended the marriage, stating that it is strictly for traditional purposes and spiritual duties. However, critics argue that such practices violate the rights of the child and constitute exploitation. They emphasize the importance of upholding national laws and protecting the well-being of children.
The Ghana Police Service, along with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, and the Department of Social Welfare, are collaborating to provide support to the girl while investigations into the matter are ongoing.
