‘See Something, Say Something’ initiative: We need a clearly defined witness protection regime in Ghana – Adib Sani

Adib Sani, a Security Analyst, emphasized the importance of establishing a clearly defined witness protection regime as part of efforts to ensure national security.

He highlighted that individuals who provide information to security officers expect their privacy to be protected.

Without such assurance, people may hesitate to share crucial information with authorities, fearing repercussions.

During an interview on News Central on TV3, Sani underscored the need for comprehensive education regarding the “See Something, Say Something” campaign. He suggested that the campaign should address situations where individuals are observed taking pictures of sensitive locations such as government buildings or military installations.

Enhancing public awareness and education on such matters is deemed crucial for bolstering national security efforts.

The “See Something, Say Something” campaign was initiated by the Ministry for National Security to raise awareness among citizens about potential terrorist threats and encourage them to report suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.

Through this campaign, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or activities to the relevant authorities.

As part of the campaign, a toll-free number (999) has been provided for citizens to report suspicious activities swiftly. Additionally, individuals can utilize emergency contacts and social media platforms of the Ghana Police Service to report unusual activities in their communities.

In areas with limited mobile connectivity, locals are encouraged to reach out to their local police, traditional leaders, faith-based organizations, and political party leaders to expedite action in addressing potential threats of terrorism.

Several celebrities and media personalities, including Kofi Kinata, Kwame Sefa Kayi, Dzifa Bampoe, Gifty Adorye, Nana Aba Anamoah, and Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, have been appointed as ambassadors for the campaign, further amplifying its reach and impact.
