President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, co-chaired the meeting of the Bi-National Commission on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024.
This Commission represents the highest level of international cooperation between Ghana and South Africa, encompassing various areas such as trade, investment, and other bilateral concerns.
Reflecting on the progress made since the inaugural session of the Bi-National Commission in December 2021, President Akufo-Addo highlighted several notable achievements.
These include the signing of agreements in the field of agriculture and gender-related matters, along with the implementation of the Defence Cooperation Agreement aimed at enhancing security between the two countries.
Furthermore, efforts have been made to foster closer people-to-people engagement through the elimination of visa barriers via the Visa Waiver Agreement, which came into effect in November 2023. This agreement facilitates business and tourism exchanges between Ghana and South Africa.
In addition to these initiatives, the two countries have advanced discussions on a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations. This MoU aims to oversee bilateral issues and provide a platform for exchanging views on regional and international matters of mutual interest.

President Akufo-Addo reassured that Ghana remains a safe haven for legitimate businesses, emphasizing the country’s commitment to protecting investments and fostering a conducive environment for economic activities.
Overall, the Bi-National Commission continues to serve as a vital framework for strengthening the longstanding ties between Ghana and South Africa, and the recent developments underscore the commitment of both nations to deepening their cooperation across various sectors.
