The Electoral Commission (EC) is gearing up for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana, with a detailed timeline outlined for various key activities leading up to the polls.
- Nomination Period:
- From September 9 to 13, 2024, candidates for both presidential and parliamentary positions can submit their nominations.
- Balloting:
- On September 23, 2024, the positions on the presidential ballot paper will be determined through balloting.
- The parliamentary balloting will follow on September 24, 2024.
- Declaration of Results:
- The EC aims to declare the results of the 2024 presidential polls within three days of the voting exercise.
- Voters’ Registration:
- The voters’ registration exercise will take place from May 7 to May 27, 2024.
- A nationwide exercise to replace missing voter ID cards is scheduled from May 30, 2024.
- Public Education:
- A comprehensive 56-day public education campaign on the voters’ registration exercise will run from April 1 to May 26, 2024.
- Exhibition of Voters Register:
- Between July 9 and 18, 2024, the provisional voters’ register will be submitted to political parties.
- An exhibition of the voters register is planned from July 15 to 24, 2024.
- The final voter register will be submitted to political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- The EC will hold meetings with stakeholders outside political parties and engage the public through its “Let The Citizen Know” series to ensure transparency and understanding of the electoral process.
- Special Voting:
- Special Voting for selected professionals, including security agencies and accredited media practitioners, will be conducted on December 2, 2024, five days before the main polls on December 7, 2024.

However, the EC is committed to ensuring transparency and timely declaration of results, aiming to declare the presidential results within three days after the voting exercise. Regional Collation Centres will be maintained to announce results at the regional level.
