Ghanaian vocalist, Yvonne Ohene Djan, popularly known as SHE (the voice behind the stars), has disclosed that she did not receive any payment for singing the popular NPP campaign song in 2012, ‘Nana y3 winner’.
SHE, known for her captivating voice, lent her vocals to the catchy chorus “Nana Nana y3 winner” in the song composed by Daddy Lumba as a campaign anthem for President Akufo-Addo during the 2012 election.
In an interview with AJ Sarpong on 3FM Drive, SHE revealed that despite her contribution to the song, she did not accept any payment. She recounted how she agreed to assist Daddy Lumba with the song on short notice before traveling to the US the following day.
However, President Akufo-Addo later acknowledged her contribution and offered to compensate her when he encountered her at Kwabena Kwabena’s wedding ceremony in 2012. Despite the president’s insistence, SHE did not collect her payment at the time.
She expressed gratitude for the president’s acknowledgment but pleaded with him not to honor his invitation for payment.

SHE emphasized that, at the time, she didn’t mind being featured on political songs because she viewed music as universal, irrespective of its audience. She likened it to radio, which caters to diverse audiences regardless of religion or affiliation.
Known for her versatility across various music genres such as hiplife, highlife, reggae, and gospel, SHE has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s music landscape with her exceptional talent and distinctive voice.
