President Akufo-Addo is set to fulfill his constitutional duty by delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament today. The event, which will take place at the State House in Osu, Accra, is mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
The SONA serves as a platform for the President to communicate the government’s current economic, political, and social initiatives, as well as to outline its accomplishments and future plans. It is a highly anticipated event, with stakeholders from various sectors eager to hear the government’s strategies for addressing pressing national challenges.
Scheduled for 10:00 AM, the SONA is expected to be attended by a wide array of dignitaries, including Ministers of State, former presidents, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society representatives.

Given the prevailing economic challenges, there is keen interest in President Akufo-Addo’s plans to tackle issues such as inflation, unemployment, and currency depreciation. Expectations are also high for updates on key sectors like agriculture, education, energy, healthcare, sanitation, sports, security, roads, digitalization, and arts, tourism, and entertainment.
In the education sector, stakeholders anticipate updates on the free Senior High School (SHS) program, infrastructure development, and efforts to enhance educational quality. Similarly, the agriculture sector awaits initiatives to boost productivity and support farmers, while the energy sector looks for solutions to challenges in power supply.
Healthcare remains a critical focus, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with expectations for updates on vaccination efforts, healthcare infrastructure, and health system strengthening.
The SONA is expected to provide a comprehensive overview of the government’s achievements, challenges, and plans for the future, setting the tone for the remainder of President Akufo-Addo’s term in office.
