In the heartfelt statement, Mitchell was remembered as a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He had been battling ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a neurodegenerative disease, since his diagnosis in 2018. Despite his health challenges, Mitchell continued to inspire others with his resilience and optimism.

A native of Canada, Mitchell amassed over 50 credits in film and television throughout his career. He portrayed Carol Danvers’ father in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” and appeared in various TV series such as “Jericho,” “The Astronaut Wives Club,” and “Switched at Birth.”

From 2017 to 2021, Mitchell captivated audiences as he portrayed multiple Klingon characters, including Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik, as well as Aurellio, in “Star Trek: Discovery.”

Mitchell’s family described him as a “hope seeker, daydreamer, dream believer” and praised his strength and commitment to living a full life despite his illness. He leaves behind his wife, Susan, and their two young children.
