Actress Vicky Zugah has shed light on why many victims of sexual harassment in the movie industry hesitate to publicly name and shame their perpetrators.
In an interview on Joy FM, Zugah highlighted the fear of being blacklisted by influential figures in the industry as a major deterrent for victims.
According to Zugah, victims often shy away from reporting harassment cases because they risk being perceived as vocal troublemakers, which may lead to them being labeled as unfit for certain roles or opportunities.
She explained that in certain cultural contexts, speaking out about such experiences can negatively impact a woman’s marriage prospects or aspirations for other career paths, such as politics.
Zugah also pointed out the criticism and backlash that victims often face from the public when they come forward with their stories. She noted that such criticism further discourages victims who may not feel assured of receiving support from the public or authorities.
The actress recounted the various reasons victims are criticized, including being accused of stirring up past issues or being labeled as bitter or attention-seeking.

Despite these challenges, Zugah encouraged actors and actresses who face such situations to bravely speak out and name their perpetrators if they feel comfortable doing so. She emphasized the importance of empowering victims to tell their stories and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
