The Parliamentary Minority has criticized the recent ministerial reshuffle announced by the President to Parliament on February 14, labeling it an “injury time remix.”
In a press release dated February 14 and signed by Minority Leader Casiel Ato Forson, they describe the reshuffle as a mere rehash of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia government’s failures, deeming it lackluster and unimpressive.
“It is deemed too little too late, occurring just nine months before the end of the government’s term. This reshuffle will not alleviate the suffering and hardships endured by the people of Ghana due to the poor governance and rampant corruption of the Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia administration,” Dr. Ato Forson stated.
He further criticizes the reshuffle, highlighting that the newcomers, who have been sidelined for over seven years, cannot effectively address the remaining nine months’ challenges or rectify the economic turmoil caused by Alhaji Bawumia and his economic team.
“The government’s tenure has been marked by excessive borrowing, unsustainable debt, economic crisis, high tax burdens, governance deficiencies, wasteful spending, and embezzlement of state funds by government officials, as well as nepotism,” the Minority Leader pointed out.
Dr. Ato Forson noted President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to entertain discussions about a reshuffle, despite calls from numerous MPs and citizens, including demands for the resignation of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from nearly 100 NPP Members of Parliament.
He lamented the President’s reluctance to act on the widespread calls for government reshuffle due to its underperformance.
The NDC Minority believes that the resignation of both President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Bawumia would have been the most effective solution to alleviate the suffering and hardships endured by Ghanaians.
