The Ghana Police Service has announced that it is well-prepared and has sufficient personnel ready for deployment during the #OccupyBoGProtest scheduled for Tuesday, October 3. This assurance was provided during a press conference held at the Police Headquarters in anticipation of the protest.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, emphasized that the police have made thorough preparations and conducted appropriate training to manage the protest effectively.
“We have an adequate number of police officers for tomorrow’s demonstration,” she stated. “I want to urge every member of the public who plans to participate in the protest to attend, as we have ample manpower to provide security throughout the duration of the demonstration. We will be present at all stages of the event.”
The protest, organized by the Minority Caucus in Parliament, is aimed at demanding the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his two deputies in response to the GH¢60 billion losses recorded by the central bank in the 2022 fiscal year.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi also disclosed the planned route of the protest. It will commence at the Obra Spot and proceed through Circle to Adabraka before culminating at the Cedi House and Independence Square.
As preparations continue, the police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all participants and maintaining order during the demonstration. The protest is expected to draw significant attention and participation from members of the public.
