The Ghana Police Service has held a meeting with leaders of the Democracy Hub group to address concerns regarding the nature of their planned demonstration at the Jubilee House, the official residence and workplace of the President of Ghana.
In a statement issued on Friday, the police described the meeting as being held in a cordial atmosphere. During the meeting, the leaders of the Democracy Hub group assured the police that they would engage in discussions with their members to explore a possible compromise regarding the venue of the demonstration. They also pledged to revert to the police with their decision.
The leaders further assured the police that they would communicate with their members, urging them to leave the streets temporarily. This pause would allow time for either a compromise decision between the police and the demonstrators on an alternative venue or for the matter to be resolved by the court.
The police’s statement also clarified that, based on their records, there was no evidence or reported case of assault against the demonstrators. They called on anyone with evidence to the contrary to provide it for investigation.
The statement concluded by emphasizing the police’s commitment to fostering a democratic environment where citizens’ rights are upheld, while also maintaining the security and stability of the nation.
