Violent Land Dispute Erupts in Ofankor, Police Restore Calm

Chaos broke out in Ofankor on Wednesday morning, leading to the blocking of public roads and the burning of tires in the area. The incident, which disrupted the peace of the community, is believed to have been triggered by a land dispute between landguards and wood sellers.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the unrest began due to disagreements over land ownership and usage. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in violent clashes.

Security forces have since been deployed to the area to restore calm, and the affected road has been reopened to normal traffic.

In a brief statement, the police confirmed that they are actively investigating the incident with the aim of identifying and apprehending those responsible for the violence.

According to reports, the confrontation took place at Ofankor Moose along the Accra-Nsawam road. Tragically, one person lost their life, and several others sustained injuries during the clashes.

Citi News’ Adwoa Tenkoramaa, who reported on the incident, shared that the root cause of the conflict appears to be the landowner’s decision to evict the wood sellers, despite having received rent payments from them for the past three years.

The situation escalated when a group of landguards, suspected to have been sent by the landowner, descended on the premises. They reportedly fired shots and looted shops, resulting in one wood seller suffering gunshot wounds. In response, the wood sellers took retaliatory action.

Fortunately, the timely arrival of the police prevented the situation from deteriorating further and helped restore peace to the area. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the incident and to bring those responsible to justice.
