Second Senior Police Witness Claims Leaked Audio Recording is Doctored

Location: Accra, Ghana

Superintendent George Asare, the second senior police witness in the inquiry into the leaked audio recording about the alleged plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has joined his predecessor in claiming that the tape is doctored.

He insists that the “tape is incomplete” and alleges that IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare was the mastermind behind the recording and its subsequent leakage.

Supt. Asare appeared before the seven-member committee on Monday, September 4, and was asked about his conversation with former Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu.

He stated that he had provided additional information to Mr. Naabu, which was not present in the tape, in an attempt to demonstrate that the recording had been manipulated.

He described the entire recording as “cut and paste” and emphasized that while the audio contained voices that resembled his own, he could not definitively confirm them as his own.

This aligns with the testimony given by the Director General of Operations, George Alex Mensah, when he appeared before the committee.

Both witnesses have pointed fingers at the IGP for the leakage of the audio recording. Supt. Asare has also stated that the two individuals sent to retrieve CVs from Chief Bugri Naabu to the IGP are willing to appear before the committee as witnesses.

Furthermore, Supt. Asare has offered to provide more information to the committee regarding the actions of the current IGP in-camera, suggesting that there may be additional details related to the case that have not been disclosed publicly.

The investigation into the leaked audio recording and allegations of a plot to remove the IGP continues, with further revelations expected as the inquiry progresses.
