Stan Xoese Dogbe, a former Presidential Staffer, has publicly endorsed John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the preferred candidate for the youth of Ghana. In a Facebook post, Dogbe cited Mahama’s track record of implementing social intervention programs and his commitment to youth empowerment as compelling reasons for his endorsement.
Dogbe highlighted the impact of Mahama’s previous initiatives, such as the Youth Enterprises Support (YES) program, which provided funding, job opportunities, and skills training for numerous young Ghanaians. He also praised Mahama’s plans to introduce additional youth-focused schemes, including free vocational, artisanal, skills, and technical training through the National Apprenticeship Programme. These initiatives are designed to equip young Ghanaians with valuable skills, enabling them to become self-employed, employers, and self-reliant.
In his endorsement, Dogbe emphasized Mahama’s vision for a 24-hour economy and substantial investments in infrastructure, which he believes will create a more promising future for the country’s youth. He further commended Mahama’s commitment to youth empowerment, education, and good governance, describing him as the better choice for addressing critical youth-related issues and working collaboratively with citizens to shape the future of Ghana.
Dogbe took the opportunity to criticize the current administration led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia, alleging that they have failed to effectively address youth unemployment and improve the education system. He expressed concerns about pervasive corruption and unfulfilled promises to the youth under their leadership.
This public endorsement underscores the importance of youth-related policies and empowerment in Ghana’s political landscape. As the country approaches its next election, the question of which candidate can best address the needs and aspirations of the youth is likely to be a central issue in the national discourse.
Dogbe’s endorsement is indicative of the broader debate over the direction of Ghana’s future and the role that its youth will play in shaping it. The youth vote is expected to be a pivotal factor in determining the outcome of the upcoming elections, making policies and initiatives aimed at their empowerment a key campaign issue.
