President Nana Akufo-Addo has emphasized the importance of prioritizing maritime security and safety for nations within the Gulf of Guinea.
Speaking at the International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC), President Akufo-Addo called for unity among nations to harness technological advancements, knowledge, and naval expertise to prevent terrorist groups from operating in territorial waters.
The Gulf of Guinea, spanning from Senegal to Angola, is a critical shipping zone for transporting oil, gas, and goods.

The President acknowledged the presence of Generals, Admirals, Marshals, and representatives from international partners at the conference, underscoring the importance of collaboration in dealing with maritime sector challenges.
The IMDEC, hosting its third edition, serves as a platform for African maritime industry stakeholders to address maritime security issues.
The conference aims to tackle threats to Africa’s territorial waters and blue economy by discussing technological advancements and resolutions.
As part of the event, President Akufo-Addo officially launched Ghana’s National Integrated Maritime Strategy, a blueprint developed to enhance the security of the nation’s maritime domain.
The strategy is a collaborative effort between Ghana’s Ministries of National Security and Transport.
Minister of National Security Albert Kan-Dapaah praised the government for investing in maritime infrastructure, which has enabled the Ghana Navy to bolster surveillance and patrol efforts to protect the maritime domain.
