Ghana Police Service Director General of Operations to Appear Before Committee

The Director General of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, COP George Alex Mensah, is scheduled to appear before the Ad-Hoc Committee set up by Parliament to investigate an alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare.

COP George Alex Mensah is expected to appear before the committee along with two other colleagues on Thursday, August 31.

This development comes after claims made by Daniel Bugri Naabu, the Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, who stated that COP George Alex Mensah is the senior police officer heard on the leaked audio discussing the alleged plot.

Bugri Naabu had previously confirmed the authenticity of the secret tape and explained that his decision to record the conversation was to protect the interests of his party. He intended to forward the tape to President Akufo-Addo.

The leaked tape has sparked a national discussion due to its content, which involves a conversation with senior police officers discussing the alleged plot. In response to public concern, Parliament established the Ad-Hoc Committee, chaired by Member of Parliament Samuel Atta-Akyea, to investigate the matter.

The committee has been tasked with examining the authenticity of the leaked tape and investigating the allegations. Its findings are expected to be presented in a report on September 10.
