The Accra Regional Police Command has raised concerns over the routes selected by the Minority caucus in Ghana’s parliament for their planned protest demanding the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and his deputies.
The Police believe that the chosen routes could pose a risk to public safety and order. As a result, the Police have requested the Minority to relocate the protest routes and destination in the interest of maintaining public order, safety, and the functioning of essential services.
The Minority had previously issued a 21-day ultimatum for the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies to resign due to concerns about the management of the central bank and the reported GHC60 billion losses in its 2022 financial report.
They plan to hold a protest at the Bank of Ghana Head Office on September 5, 2023, to voice their grievances.

The Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, stated that all necessary arrangements have been made for the demonstration and that they had reached a consensus with the police regarding the protest’s modalities.
The Minority’s concerns include allegations of mismanagement of financial resources and printing of money by the Bank of Ghana, which they attribute to recklessness and corruption.
A member of the pressure group AriseGhana, Bernard Monarh, also criticized the Governor of the Bank of Ghana for justifying the new headquarters for the central bank.
The Minority aims to use the protest as a platform to highlight their concerns and demand accountability from the Bank of Ghana’s management.
