Kurt Okraku submits nomination forms for re-election bid

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku was met with enthusiastic reception as he arrived at the GFA Secretariat on Friday to formally

submit his nomination forms, signaling his intention to seek re-election for a second term.

The event was marked by celebration among his supporters who gathered to display their steadfast endorsement, reflecting the robust support he has garnered leading up to the upcoming presidential election.

Okraku’s bid for re-election has received strong backing from all ten Regional Football Associations, a significant show of support that was publicly

confirmed on Monday. The unified backing from the regions solidifies Okraku’s position as a leading candidate in the election, scheduled for September 27 in Tamale.

Speaking to the gathered supporters and media after submitting his nomination, Okraku emphasized his dedication to the future of Ghanaian football,

stating, “Ghana football has faced challenges, but it is currently on an upward trajectory, and I can assure you that Ghana football is in capable hands, and I am the person for the job.”

He reiterated his willingness to collaborate and innovate, stressing, “Many administrators believe in my vision, and we must work together to reach new

heights. I am open to fresh perspectives to enhance our football.”

Okraku’s initial victory in the 2019 election saw him overcome notable competitors, including former GFA Vice President George Afriyie, in a closely contested

race that included four other contenders.

This year, Afriyie is positioned as a prominent challenger, aiming to contest Okraku’s pursuit of a second term.
