Driver jailed 12 months for cursing police officers

A magistrate district court in Kasoa has sentenced to 12 months in prison with hard labour, a driver who reigned insults on police officers.

The driver, Stephen Ofori Akrasi according to the charge sheet, had questioned the police officers for ransacking his bag.

The incident escalated into a physical assault of the driver who ended up cursing the police officers.

The driver was charged with offensive conduc, he pleaded guilty. The driver told the court his reaction was to protect himself from the police officers but the court didn’t not listen to the driver’s explanation.

“The explanation of the accused holds no water and I find him guilty.

He claimed that they were five on board but it was only him who was searched and this aroused his anger to invoke the name of the rivers he used to invoke the curse on the complainant as Ahwerewaa, Etwa and Antoa” The court said

The court further stated that the accused driver showed no remorse and was sentenced to 12 months imprisoned with hard labour.
