President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reaffirms that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) tradition values the input of serious minds and democratic decision-making rather than blind allegiance to individuals. Speaking to party communicators at a meeting, he emphasized that the NPP encourages open debate and differences of opinion, and decisions are reached democratically based on majority or consensus.
Responding to reports that he is favoring Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming NPP Presidential Primaries, President Akufo-Addo denied any attempts to influence the party’s members. He asserted that he, like any other delegate, has only one vote and has never coerced anyone to support a specific candidate among the 10 aspirants.
Addressing the allegations of government backing for Vice President Bawumia, President Akufo-Addo dismissed them as false and malicious, asserting that there is no truth to such claims. He reiterated his commitment to democratic principles within the party and emphasized that the NPP does not function like a party where one person’s directives are blindly followed, but rather encourages healthy debates and democratic decision-making processes.
