The crackdown on illegal black volta miners is still proceeding, according to the Savannah Regional Minister.

According to the Savannah Region Minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril, the military, the Regional Security Council, and the Minerals Commission are still eradicating illegal miners on the Black Volta.

On Wednesday, July 26, he got an updated report from the Six Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the Savannah Regional Security Council, and the Minerals Commission.

On Friday, July 21, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, briefed the media on the operations on the Black Volta River and assured the media of the Government’s determination to crack down on illegal miners on the River as a result of the surge in illegal mining activities (galamsey).

According to reports, locations in the Savannah Region such as Jama, Jugboi, and Bamboi have all been cleaned of illegal miners.

The Minister assured that the Ministerial Coordinating Committee on illicit Mining was completely committed to halting illicit mining activities along key rivers and water bodies designated as ‘Red Zones’ by the government.
