On Monday, July 24, 2023, officials from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) searched the house of former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

Madam Dapaah was selected for questioning earlier in the day on suspicion of corruption.

The OSP revealed in a statement that “At 11:55 GMT on 24 July 2023, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who resigned from the position of Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources on 22 July 2023, was placed under arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in respect of suspected corruption and corruption-related offences regarding large amounts of money and other valuable items reportedly stolen from her residence.”

“Ms. Dapaah is being questioned by authorised Officers of the OSP.”

The former minister is currently the talk of the town after it was revealed that she was responsible for the arrest of her house helpers, who are accused of stealing $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian Cedis from Madam Dapaah’s residence in Abelenkpe, Accra, between July and October 2022.

The act sent shockwaves throughout the country, leaving residents stunned by the daring robbery and many wondering where the money came from.

Cecilia Dapaah resigned from her portfolio over the weekend after The Chronicle Newspaper broke the story, which went viral.

President Akufo-Addo accepted her resignation, saying the former Minister was loyal and hoped her integrity would be restored.

Two home helpers of Madam Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, are accused of stealing money and things worth millions of Ghana Cedis in an Accra Circuit Court.

The money is claimed to have been stolen from the couple’s chamber at their home.

Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, are accused of stealing the couple’s money and personal effects between July and October 2022.

The first accused, (A1) Patience, is also being prosecuted alongside her current and former boyfriends, as well as her father.

Patience and Sarah (A2) are charged with one count of criminal conspiracy and five charges of stealing US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana cedis.

Patience and Sarah are accused of stealing Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s personal things, which included a variety of garments worth GH95,000, purses, and fragrances.
