Twenty-two (22) people are fighting for their lives at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong after their car was involved in an accident while descending Mamfe Hill. The vehicle that swerved off the road at the hairpin bend flipped numerous times, injuring all passengers.
All of the victims were taken to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital by personnel from the Ghana National Ambulance Service, who hurried to the scene with the support of a police service van from Mamfe Akropong. The accident occurred due to a brake failure after the driver of the Benz Sprinter Bus with registration number GX 6215 -13 swerved a vehicle in front of him, according to the driver.

For several hours, the scenario produced tremendous traffic as arrangements were made to take the vehicle away from the location. Inadequate traffic signage at vantage spots, poor visibility at night, and deadly potholes are cited as primary reasons of weekly accidents on the Mamfe-Koforidua route by road users. As a result, they demand immediate government intervention to limit the bloodshed along that road.
