Three armed robbers were burned to death at Moseaso, a community in the Western Region’s Amenfi West Municipality.
The criminals, who numbered eight, robbed and shot a gold dealer, Frank Arthur, 51, to death in the village, prompting residents to retaliate.
Richard Arthur, the gold dealer’s brother, told Kaakyire Kofi Badu of Ahobrase FM in Asankragwa that he received a distress call stating that his brother had been shot by armed thieves.
“About 6:30 am, I started calling my brother and he was not answering so I asked someone to go and look for him at the mining site if he was there. After about ten minutes, a call came through that my brother had been shot by armed robbers so I got there immediately. I went and took him straight to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival,” he indicated.
He was still in the hospital, he said, when he learnt that some local youngsters had apprehended several of the armed bandits.
“I was still at the hospital making arrangement for my brother’s body when I received a call from the community that three of the armed robbers have been arrested. I later arrived in the community and realized they have burnt all the three to death,” he added.
He claims that the burning armed robbers are community members who are also ex-convicts.
“They have been terrorizing residents in our community. Some of them are ex-convicts and they are known faces in our community. Those who are on the run are from adjourning communities and we trust the police to arrest them in no time,” he added.
Kaakyire Kofi Badu revealed to Connect FM that the armed robbers’ boss is currently on the run, along with four others.
He went on to say that the three remains had been put at the Asankragwa Catholic Hospital while the police searched for the remainder.
Residents gathered to observe the bodies of people who had been burned could be seen laying in the bucket of a pickup truck.
