This is most reprehensible and should not be repeated-Mahama Ayariga on the murder of a security officer in Bawku.

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has condemed the shooting, injuring, and killing of some members of the security forces in Bawku on Monday, April 3, 2023.

He called the action “most reprehensible and should not be repeated. An investigation into the matter must be conducted and the perpetrators brought to book.”

“Let me on behalf of the people of Bawku express our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased security personnel and extend our prayers to the wounded.”

He also urged the government to take the initiative in promoting a long-term peace process in Bawku.

Unknown assailants shot and killed a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) official in conflict-prone Bawku, Upper East Region.

Two other officers are battling for their lives at Bawku Presbyterian Hospital, where they were taken following the incident.

The three were attacked on their journey to Missiga station on Monday night.

The attackers’ motivation is unknown, but their actions are said to be linked to the area’s long-running ethnic conflict.

Civilians have been terrorized by gunmen at the heart of the Kusasi-Mamprusi dispute.

The officer who died has been named as Philip Motey, while the injured have been identified as Eric Ayibiya, 30, and Laurence Afri, 42.

As the gunmen are pursued, the military force in town has been increased.
