On Wednesday, March 8, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver the State of the Nation Address in Parliament.
This is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which states that the President shall deliver to Parliament a message on the State of the Nation at the beginning of each session and before the dissolution of Parliament.
The address, which was postponed from last month, is expected to highlight the government’s key policy objectives for the coming year as well as information on how the government intends to address economic conditions. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, explained why the meeting was rescheduled. “After extensive deliberation, the address has been rescheduled for March 8th. The President agreed to the date for good reason. The 6th is a significant date for all of us, and a national event will be held in Ho, with the President expected to attend. It will not be held on the 7th, for obvious reasons. So we’ve agreed to forego some assignments and hold the SONA on the 8th.”
